Longest Night 2016
In December 2016, The Bancroft House sponsored a community-wide fundraising and educational event called the “Longest Night” where participants will willingly spend the night of the Winter Solstice (Dec. 21st) temporarily homeless on the Dow Field in Franconia, New Hampshire. Understanding the plight of the homeless through a single evening of camping out in winter weather will showcase the struggles of the homeless in the North Country. Please lend your support by contacting us for more information or for a pledge sheet.
What a great night celebrating the “Longest Night” – upwards of thirty folks gathered on the Dow Field under cloudy skies and unusually warm temperatures. Folks participated from Lancaster to Bath…young and old, and everyone had a great time. he event was bigger and better than last year with attendance throughout the evening of between 30 and 40 people with thirty-five spending the evening under the cloudy skies….temperatures were in the mid 20’s with calm winds….students and faculty from Lisbon, Lin-Wood, and Profile were in attendance. All gained a greater appreciation of the plight of the homeless and through their efforts, support for the Bancroft House mission of caring for the homeless was realized….thank you to all who attended and to all those who supported the participants with pledges and moral support….
